The Italian had warned his side that West Ham would be better than their league start suggested - but took no pride in being proved right.
He said: "West Ham have had a bit of bad luck this season. I said yesterday it would be a very difficult match - and I was right.
"They wanted to fight, wanted to suffer - and wanted to win. They played with passion and di Canio scored a fantastic, magical goal.
"We only played for 20 minutes, so West Ham deserved to win today. They played better than us, so there's nothing more to say."
