"I suffered a lot. The first half was very bland, but the second half was a good match.

"We scored a goal and made another two great chances to finish the match, but when you don't score it's difficult and we were fortunate they missed chances.

"I thought we showed very good character. Frank Lampard made another fantastic match and maintained the midfield.”

He also had some praise reserved for match winner Mario Melchiot: "Mario played very well. I have a lot of confidence in Mario. I rested Glen Johnson because he has played a lot recently.”

However, Saints boss Gordon Strachan wasn't at all pleased with his team's poor finishing... "I didn’t think Chelsea were a big, big threat, especially in the first half. A team like them and we restricted them to a few chances.”

"We lost our way for 10 minutes. We had a mad few minutes when we tried to play offside. Playing offside was never going to work. But we did a lot right today which I was pleased about.”

*Note, the new word was "bland" if you didn't guess!
