3 Reasons Why Rafael Benitez Will Be Successful At Chelsea

Last updated : 27 November 2012 By DSG

From my previous articles, you guys will know I am a fan of Benitez. I firmly believe the Spaniard can be a success at Chelsea. This weekend was hardly plain sailing for Benitez, however a point and a clean sheet against the Champions is a decent start.

The majority of footballs will wonder what Rafael Benitez thought about the constant booing this weekend when he took his new Chelsea side to the Etihad Stadium; looking for a win.

The match was a fairly dull game with no real clear-cut chances, and with the Chelsea's current form, I would of expected the majority of the Chelsea faithful to have been pleased with a point against Manchester City, but most importantly, the clean sheet.

Benitez, who took over form the fired Roberto Di Matteo, was greeted by his new fans with an echoing chorus of boo's. As well as hand made signs and banners all reading ?Rafa Out.? In their defense, they knew Abramovich didn't want Di Matteo, and they know he probably isn?t wholly convinced by Rafael Benitez ? the Russian wants Pep Guardiola.

However, I believe Abramovich and Chelsea fans will be surprisingly content come the end of the season. There are three reasons why I think Rafael Benitez will be a success at Chelsea Football Club, here they are.

His Thick Skin.

Ultimately, not many football fans like Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard grew accustomed to building negative relationships with Premier League managers, most notably Sir Alex Ferguson. However, his previous quarrelling with Jose Mourinho and Chelsea fans alike have ultimately not seen him go down well with Chelsea fans.

With his post-match press conference with Geoff Shreeves, Benitez showed the Premier League that he has the belief and determination to succeed with Chelsea.

Shreeves told Benitez; ?That was absolutely awful with the crowd all booing you.? After the Blues' 0-0 draw with Manchester City.

Benitez insisted he heard nothing, Shreeves replied; ?Even if you didn?t hear it, I can tell you virtually the whole Chelsea crowd booed you and they were singing ?we don?t want you here.?

Benitez has the thick skin to block any negativity thrown towards his team, and if left alone with Chelsea, the Spaniard no doubt has the tactical capabailities to boost Chelsea's hopes of some sort of silverware this season.

The Squad At His Disposal.

The Chelsea boss has a plethora of talent at his disposal thanks to the spending of Roman Abramovich. Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar are undoubtedly the most creative midfield trio in the Premier League, and utilized correctly they can cause any side problems. In Jon Obi Mikel and Ramires he has an engine work horse, and the ideal shield to cover his back four. Petr Cech has been one of the Premier Leagues finest goalkeepers for the best part of the last decade. Although not everyone's cup of tea, John Terry and Ashley Cole have been two of England?s and Chelsea finest defenders over the years.

The Spaniard is know for drawing a line between attack and defense. If he can create a balance of attack and defence with this Chelsea squad ? he could potentially build the ideal footballing unit, capable of passing teams around the park, as well as defending in numbers to deny the opponents any opportunity on goal.

Eventually, He Will Get The Best Out Of Fernando Torres.

This is arguably Benitez's only task to get right in his 7 month tenure, just in time for the arrival of Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard got the best out of Torres from their time together in Liverpool, and will be obliged into doing so once again. Strikers usually peak around the ages of 27-30 so Fernando Torres should be in the prime of his career. With just 18 goals in his Chelsea career so far, Abramovich will be keen to save himself from further embarrassment as he looks to get his ?50million man firing on all cylinders.

With Fernando Torres high in confidence and his Chelsea side beginning to coalesce, Abramovich will no doubt firmly believe that everything is ideal for Guardiola as he seeks his return to football.

Will Chelsea have a successful season with Rafael Benitez?
