It's a brand new season and time for a brand new feature for us at 90min.
While weekly opinion pieces will still be a feature, we thought it was time to introduce a monthly article recognising the contribution of players over a slightly longer period.
For Chelsea, the month was an entertaining - if not frustrating - rollercoaster ride. From off-field bust-ups and goalkeeping errors, to collective defensive mishaps and wonderful attacking skills, the travails of Frank Lampard's team has been one of the stories of the season so far.
The real question that must now be answered is who were the club's standout players for the month of September? Well, having collated our ratings from each Premier League game played, we do have a top three to present to you.
So without any further ado, let's tuck in to 90min's inaugural Chelsea Player of the Month awards.
3. N'Golo Kante
Appearances: 3
September Average Rating: 6.3
In third place this month is the evergreen N'Golo Kante.
After having perhaps his most underwhelming season in English football last time out, the Frenchman has started this campaign looking more like the solid presence we have come to know and love.
Powered by Duracell batteries and Ready Brek, Kante provides the energy from midfield that every club needs to be successful. Remarkably, reports have surfaced linking Kante with a move to Manchester United or Inter. Even more remarkably, it appears as though Chelsea may be willing to sell.
This would surely be a business decision to rival Real Madrid's sale of Claude Makelele in 2003. IF he were to depart, then the wheels would soon fall off Chelsea's bus.
2. Mason Mount
Appearances: 3
September Average Rating: 6.3
Mason Mount is fast becoming the poster boy for Frank Lampard's Chelsea. Take that as you will.
There are a growing number of Chelsea fans who regard their manager's decision to play Mount in every conceivable scenario as grating, especially when talent such as Callum Hudson-Odoi fails to start regularly. When they see Mount, they see Lampard's increasingly obvious managerial flaws in the flesh.
However, this masks the fact that Mount is a very good player. His high-energy style is crucial for the successful implementation of Chelsea's press. He is adept on the ball and scored a screamer against West Brom to kickstart Chelsea's comeback last weekend. There are valid reasons why he holds his manager's trust.
Despite growing signs Mount will become Stamford Bridge's latest scapegoat, his performances in September justify his inclusion here.
1. Timo Werner
Appearances: 3
September Average Rating: 7
Yes, we understand why this ranking may confuse people.
Timo Werner should prove an excellent signing, but has failed to find the net for Chelsea in the league this month. This author's enduring memory of those performances was a horribly shanked miss against Liverpool, which luckily for the German would have been offside anyway.
However, it can be argued that Werner has looked incredibly sharp and has been Chelsea's best performer so far. He looked a dynamic presence on his debut against Brighton and bagged his first goal for the club in their Carabao Cup defeat against Tottenham.
Despite being jettisoned by many Fantasy Football managers already, evidence suggests the German will soon produce the goals his performances have deserved.
