Business Affairs Officer Paul Smith revealed: "Although we regard Emirates highly, we believe the best type of sponsor for Chelsea, as the club embarks on a new global era, is a consumer brand.

"Ideally, it will be an active marketing partner with similar strategic ambitions for the UK, North America and Asia, regions where we anticipate major opportunities for extensive growth in the Chelsea fanbase.

"Emirates has been an excellent sponsor for us over the past five seasons.

"Research shows they have benefited significantly in image terms from the association and their worldwide brand coverage, over the past 18 months in particular, has been exceptional, with Chelsea being in the spotlight so much."

Many leading world wide brands are said to be keen on sponsoring one of the most marketable clubs in the world. Expect a major bidding war between mobile phone, drinks, car and electronic firms!
