Despite most of the English press reporting this as a done deal weeks ago, a fee was only agreed for the right back last night. Personal terms still need to be discussed, but this is not expected to be a stumbling block.
The 25-year old Ferreira will cost £13.2 million, and he will arrive with great expectation. Having signed for Porto in 2002, Ferreira hasn't looked back since. Within six months of joining the club, he was a Portugese international.
Then, at the end of his first season, he had won the Portugese league and cup, not to mention the UEFA Cup. Last season, he won the league again along with the Champions League. So, all in all, not a bad rise to fame for our man Paolo!
However, things haven't been going to plan for Paolo at Euro 2004. He played in Portugal's first game at the championships, a 2-1 defeat to Greece but he hasn't even made it on to the pitch since!
Assuming that "Big Phil" Scolari doesn't tinker with a winning lineup, it is unlikely that we will see Ferreira at the tournament again. After all, the Portugese are going out this Thursday when they meet England...
COME ON ENGLAND!
