Sir Alex Ferguson has been chasing the Brazilian superstar for some time now but it seems as though his target keeps slipping further away.

Real Madrid are the other team being linked with Ronnie, and they might be able to offer the most attractive deal for PSG. Real are reportedly offering PSG £25 million for Ronaldinho, but they would allow the Brazilian to remain in Paris until the start of the 2004/05 season.

However, with Roman Abramovich at the helm, Chelsea have the spending power to compete with anybody. And with fans favourite Franco Zola off to Cagliari, Abramovich needs a big spending to show that he means business.

Ronaldinho's agent, Roberto Assis, reveals the latest on the move: "Manchester United are still negotiating with Paris St Germain.

"There is also some interest from Chelsea, although there hasn't been an official offer put to the club yet."

Other targets for Chelsea would appear to be Edgar Davids, Alesandro Nesta and Thierry Henry.

But with just over a month until the start of the season, the club need to act fast...
