Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is not a man who likes to single out individuals – for him the team is everything.
But he did have to concede that his Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is something special.
Drogba had been at Chelsea for six years and is now 32 years old.
Ancelotti said; “I don’t know how long Didier Drogba can go on. But he is a professional player. His most important quality is his mentality.”
Asked what faults his hit man has, Ancelotti almost chucked to try and find something.
But he did: “He sometimes loses the ball with his flicks – but I can cope with that provided he continues to score goals.”
Asked about the second league game of the season, away to Wigan Athletic on Saturday, Ancelotti took a realistic assessment: “Wigan did not start well [they lost 0-4 at home to Blackpool on Saturday] – but they will stay motivated. Our aim is to start well whether we are playing home or away.
