Chelsea have done well out of Petr Cech's move to Arsenal.
Cech was bought in 2004 for £7milliom and sold 11 years later for the thick end of £11million.
At 33, the goalkeeper is past his best, yet still the Blue somehow managed to squeeze that amount of money out of the North London title also rans.
Arsene Wenger has even offered more than his customers one-year deal for an over 30s such was their desperation that Cech will sprinkle some sort of stardust on his underachvers.
Most Chelsea watchers will know what Jose Mourinho knows and that Cech has not been at his best in recent seasons.
Thibaut Courtois ousted the veteran and no one thinks it was a bad decision by Mourinho and the club.
He and the foot all club's board were in accord last season in deciding that the Belgium would be first choice.
Cech, ever the professional decided that last term would be best used to secure an amicable parting of the ways. This he and his advisors have done skilfully, to such an extent that he has bested Mourinho, who would have preferred Cech moved out of the Premier League. Moving to Arsenal meant that no bridges were burnt. He supported Courtois, training with the same intensity as if he was going to play the following game and said all the right things.
It is what he didn't say that most impressed the board. He did not complain publically. He did not brief sympathetic journalists. He played a straight bat and has been rewarded.
But if Arsenal think they have a compliant employee, they will soon realise differently.
Cech knows what he wants. He made his views perfectly clear when things were not going the club's way - most notably over the ability of managers who were not Mourinho.
So farewell then, Petr, see you on August 2 in the Wembley mixed zone. Do stop by and say hello, won't you.
