UEFA will redo the Champions League last 16 draw at 2pm (GMT) after declaring the original draw void because of a 'technical problem' that saw Manchester United excluded from a potential tie.
United should have been one of the clubs in the pot drawn for Atletico Madrid but were accidentally excluded. Atletico were paired with Bayern Munich, while the Old Trafford club later came out against Paris Saint-Germain. United had earlier also been pulled out as an opponent for Villarreal, which contravened competition rules because they had qualified from the same group.
At the second attempt, it will be a random draw with the important caveats adhered to. Each seeded group winner will be paired against an unseeded group runner-up, while country protection also remains in place at this stage. As mentioned, clubs who have already faced each other in the group stage will also be kept apart in this round.

Heading into 2022, last 16 first leg ties will be split across consecutive weeks on either 15/16 February or 22/23 February. The return legs will follow on 8/9 March or 15/16 March. The seeded clubs, drawn second, will also have the added advantage of playing last 16 second leg ties at home.
This is the first season in which the away goals rule has been scrapped, so extra-time is guaranteed if an aggregate score-line is level at the end of the second leg.
