Champions League pots 1 & 2 confirmed for 2021/22 season

Champions League pots one & two have been confirmed for the 2021/22 edition of the European competition, with Chelsea and Manchester City being cast in the top tier.

The ranking system decides the seeding of the group stage draw in August, with pot one boasting the winners of the Champions League, the Europa League and the champions of the highest ranked countries in the UEFA coefficient.

And the first two pots have been decided for the 2021/22 Champions League draw, which sees Premier League champions Man City and Champions League winners Chelsea both secure their place among the elite.

Europa League winners Villarreal have also been handed a place in pot one, along with Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Sporting, Lille and Inter, all champions of their respective domestic leagues.

Premier League giants Manchester United missed out on being selected in pot one however, after losing the Europa League final to Villarreal on Wednesday evening, and they'll be joined by Liverpool in pot two.

Pot two plays host to a number of European heavyweights, given that 2019/20 league winners Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Liverpool all failed to defend their crown. Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Barcelona are the other names in the confirmed draw.

There are some dangerous teams left who are yet to be seeded for the group stage draw, with the likes of Milan, Atalanta, Ajax and Porto all waiting to know their fate. The 32 qualified teams will be drawn into eight separate groups, where the top two will progress to the knockout stages.

Chelsea are the winners of the latest edition of the Champions League, beating Man City 1-0 in the final in Porto, thanks to a goal from Kai Havertz. That result means the Citizens' wait for European glory goes on, while the Blues have tasted success for the second time.
