Chelsea Agree Short-Term Extensions for Willian & Pedro

Chelsea have agreed to short-term contract extensions with both Willian and Pedro up until the end of the season, with both players set to depart Stamford Bridge this summer.

Willian started the Blues' maiden Premier League fixture back following a three-month hiatus at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, as Frank Lampard's side overturned a 1-0 first-half deficit to win 2-1 and extend their lead over Manchester United in the top-four race to five points.

Willian was substituted late on in Chelsea's 2-1 victory over Aston Villa

The availability of both wingers up until the end of the season was a concern for Lampard, with the club previously said to be in 'limbo' over season-ending contract extensions for both the Brazilian and Pedro. The latter, meanwhile, was said to be reluctant to sign a short-term deal due to fears over injury potentially scuppering a summer move.

Nevertheless, The Telegraph has reported the pair have agreed to short-term extensions, with the pair leaving it until Tuesday’s cut off date for players whose contracts had been due to expire on 30 June to agree terms to play on.

Following lengthy talks with Lampard and director Marina Granovskaia on Monday and Tuesday, both players decided to commit themselves to Chelsea until the end of the season.

The news comes as a huge boost for the Blues boss amid Chelsea's charge for a top-four finish. Lampard's wide options are currently quite slim, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic the only other two recognised wingers in the Chelsea squad aside from the veteran pair. Even Ruben Loftus-Cheek was deployed out on the left - to minimal effect - in their return fixture against Aston Villa.

Pedro is set for a switch to Serie A this summer

Despite both penning extensions, the pair are set to depart west London when their contracts expire this summer.

Willian is said to have attracted interest from both Tottenham and Arsenal, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, while Pedro is destined for a move to Roma.
