Manchester United claimed top spot last term as Chelsea failed to build on their double success of Premier League and FA Cup glory the previous season.
Carlo Ancelotti paid the price for Chelsea's failure last season, with new man Andre Villas-Boas brought in to get them back on the winning trail.
Cech, who was named as the club's Player of the Season last term, is determined to make up for the lack of silverware last season by winning some trophies in the new campaign.
"Last season was a great one for me personally, but unfortunately it was not a great one for the team," Cech told the Daily Star on Sunday. "Hopefully, the next one will be one of the best for the team because this is why I am playing football. Individual trophies and awards are nice.
"But in the end it is the team's success and the trophies we win that count the most.
"I will remember the season from a personal point of view as one of my best. In many ways I played even better than in my first year with Chelsea.
"But back then we won the Premier League title and Carling Cup. Last year we did not win anything and did not bring anything back.
"Comparing seasons, I'm very pleased. But the real pity was no trophy under the belt. That would have made it so much better."
Cech insists Chelsea would have retained the title last season only for their mid-season slump around Christmas.
"If we'd had our normal consistent season, we'd have won the title easily. But you need to play as a unit and as a team. That dip in December cost us," added Cech.
Serbian defender Ivanovic is looking forward to working under Villas-Boas and believes Chelsea need to learn from their mistakes of last season if they are to be successful.
"You always have new and different things with a new manager," noted Ivanovic. "This year is a great chance and opportunity for everyone to show we have learned why we lost out.
"We need to remember this and use it as a big motivation to put right mistakes we made before.
"The motivation is to get the title back in our hands. We know it's going to be really hard but I believe we can do it and we are ready."
