Chelsea are reportedly willing to offer £500,000 to bring in a fourth (yes, a fourth) goalkeeper this summer. The reason for this would seem to be because of the injury to Jurgen Macho.
Leeds manager Peter Reid revealed "Me and Nigel will have a chat. There has been communication between the clubs and we're still talking."
Considering that the club have let go a very competent young goalkeeper this summer, in the form of Rhys Evans, I find it very surprising that we would even consider a move for a 36-year old.
Rhys is an England under-21 international and would surely have been a worthy understudy this season. Indeed, the club also have Lenny Pidgeley on our books- he is just 19 and surely a signing like this blights his progress...
Stuart Taylor at Arsenal is proof of how a young goalkeeper can handle the pressure. But even if the club weren't sure about the younger keepers, we still have Marco Ambrosio. If I'm not mistaken, the Italian is 29/30 years of age.
The potential signing of Nigel Martyn seems like a bit of a no-brainer to me, but I'm sure Claudio Ranieri knows what he's doing...
