Chelsea’s signing of the giant teen sensation Romelu Lukaku frrom Anderlecht means that Nicolas Anelka has almost certainly played his last game for the Blues.
The 18-year-old will join the boys from SW6 if he passes a medical and agrees personal terms.
It cost Chelsea the thick edge of £18m to land the 6ft 4inch striker who has a very powerful left foot and notched 16 league goals for his Belgian side last year.
With Chelsea still unsure how to get the best out of £50m Fernando Torres – who drew a blank on his 45 minutes outing against Rangers today, it is Anelka who will be feeling the tug on his shoulder from chief executive Ron Gourlay who will ak him a la Ancelotti.
The USA and the MLS is the likely destination for Anelka.
As for his new player, Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, said: “He's an interesting young prospect."
Lukaku has been chased by the Blues for the best part of a year and was top of his league in 2010 when just 16.
Currently Chelsea has Torres, Didider Drogba, Saloman Kalou, Daniel Sturridge and Nicolas Anelka on their boots.
With the addition of Lukaku, that is two strikers too many.
So who will go with Anelka?
