The Senegalese striker has supplied both goals and assists for Newcastle United since his move from West Ham, however his run is set to end as Chelsea are looking to quickly snap him up due to the release clause of ?7 million in his contract. With Sturridge leaving the West London club to Liverpool for a fee of around ?12 million, it leaves Fernando Torres as the only striker.
Chelsea have been favourites to signing Falcao but he has told the press that he won't be leaving the Spanish club until at least the summer. With the possibility of Ba leaving Newcastle, Alan Pardew has been on alert to sign Loic Remy who is a very highly wanted striker around Europe with clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham wanting to buy him. Pardew is also keen on lining up a bid for the out of form Andy Carroll after is move away from Tyneside. However Benitez has tried to keep the rumours under wraps saying "We do not talk about our business in public. He's a player who plays for another team and I don't like to talk about other players".
The blues are also set to buy two other players in the transfer window; Metalist Kharkiv's midfielder Taison and Corinthian's Paulinho. Both players have been wanted by Chelsea for a long time and with the likes of Lampard leaving in January, they may slot right into the team. However despite the rumours of Frank leaving the club, he has been praised by Benitez for his wonderful displays in recent weeks, especially against a difficult Everton side on Sunday. "He's a great player and a great pro, who is doing extremely well for us."
Eyes have been raised though over the fitness of Demba Ba as he is said to have a long standing knee problem although it hasn't caused him to miss a game yet.
If Chelsea do manage to pick up the striker it would mean a lot less pressure on Torres and it would boost the strike force encouraging the fans that they could still snatch the League title from the two Manchester clubs.
Comment below if you think that Demba Ba is good enough for Chelsea
