Chelsea have released their new away kit for the upcoming 2021/22 season, bringing back the yellow colour that has featured in some of the club's most famous away strips of years gone by.
First introduced back in the 1960s, yellow shirts have been a regular part of Chelsea's history and have regularly been brought back in the past few years. In the Roman Abramovich era, we've seen the Blues become the Yellows in 2008, 2013, 2014 and as recently as 2018.
Coincidentally, the most-recent seasons in yellow have all yielded major silverware, including Premier League and Europa League titles, and Chelsea are clearly hoping to channel that success by bringing the famous look back for the 2021/22 season.
The new shirt boasts a simple design, with the base yellow shade covered only by a subtle pinstripe design that only adds to the throwback feel of the whole thing.
The accents, including Chelsea logo and the emblems of both Nike and Three, stand out in a bold black, as do the hidden accents on the collar and the 'Pride of London' motto printed inside the shirt.
To complete the look, players will don black shorts and yellow socks, with the two colours chosen as a reflection of both the history of the club and the youthful energy currently buzzing around Stamford Bridge.
"When you look over the years, you always remember the yellow kits on our heroes that made an impact," said Mason Mount (via the club's official website). "As players I feel we can do the same and create even more special moments in this new kit!"
As part of Nike's Move to Zero campaign, this shirt is made using 100% recycled polyester fabric which is produced using discarded plastic bottles.
Chelsea could debut the kit on Sunday when they kick off the Mind Series pre-season tournament against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Should they choose to wait, the next time fans could see the away kit in action would be August 22, when they will again face Arsenal in Premier League action.
The new Chelsea away kit is available on the Chelsea online store and Nike.com now before launching in stores on August 5!
