Chelsea were looking at the Atletico Madrid defender earlier in the season amid fears they would miss out on David Luiz.
It was reported that Blues owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned a bid of around ?55m to land centre-half Godin and Atletico striker Sergio Aguero in January.

But after capturing Luiz from Benfica, 25-year-old Godin, who played in Uruguay's friendly draw with Holland this week, could be next.
He said: 'In January, Atletico received an offer but the transfer did not happen.
'They had already sold other players and did not want to weaken the team further then.
'For Chelsea to still be interested in having me is an honour and means I must be playing well. Who would not want to play there? To do so would be a step up.'
Chelsea are still without a manager after sacking Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season and Turkey coach Guus Hiddink is favourite to return for a second spell at the club.
