The defending champions go to United on Sunday, seeking to avenge their European defeat and knowing a win will give them the initiative as the Barclays Premier League season reaches its climax.
'We've given ourselves the best possible chance,' said Chelsea captain Terry. 'We will never give up. That's what's made us the club we are in the last six or seven years.

'We go there really fresh and full of belief. It will be huge. There's no bigger spur than going to Old Trafford and winning to put ourselves right in the frame for bringing the Premier League trophy back to the Stamford Bridge.
'At the end of it, regardless of whether it is Man United or whoever in front of us, it is that trophy we want back. It's the feeling that will drive us on.
'We were very disappointed in the Champions League. United came to the Bridge and got a very good result [in the first leg] but, as we showed last year by winning a decisive game at Old Trafford, there's no reason why we can't go there and win again. We've shown a good turn of form at the right time.'
Captain fantastic: John Terry made his 500th appearance against Tottenham
Chelsea, languishing in fifth earlier this season, are now purring in second. They would have slipped 18 points behind United had they lost at home to Sir Alex Ferguson's team on March 1 but Carlo Ancelotti's team won and have dropped only two points from nine games since.
The Blues fought back from behind to win 2-1 against Spurs on Saturday, their fifth Premier League win on thetrot, which hauled them to within three points of the leaders and the captain praised Ancelotti's work after defeat to United in the ChampionsLeague quarter final cast serious doubt on the manager's future.
Terry said: 'He's taken a bit of stick but he deserves a lot of credit for the way he's picked everyone up and gone again. He's kept everyone fresh and hungry. He's a great manager, who the players believe in and trust and who has kept us going.
'He was just as disappointed as the players after the Champions League game. He came in and spoke after 15 minutes of silence and said: "Listen, we can make our season what we want it to be. We don't give up now, we continue right to the end, for our football club, for our supporters and for ourselves." That's what he's done and the players kept their hunger.'
Terry made his 500th Chelsea appearance on Saturday and admits that it would rank among his finest achievements if they were to recover and win the title after a terrible run of mid-season form.
'It would certainly be up there, along with the time we won it for the first time in 50 years,' he said.
'There have been times when United were running away with it, I thought they were out of sight, so to get it down to three points shows what we've done.
'I always believed. We certainly never gave up and we've put ourselves in a good situation. United have still got some tough games to go. If we go there and lose, then fair play to them, but they know we're certainly capable of going there and getting a result.
Turning point: Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-1 in March to reignite their title challenge
'United have got a tough game away to Blackburn and then Blackpool at home last day of the season. It's going to be tough. It could come down to goal difference. We've got a home game after Man United against Newcastle and it's important that we keep going.'
On the milestone of his 500th game, Terry added: 'I'm very proud. Looking back, to when I was 18, on 30-odd games, I could never have predicted where I am today. I'm delighted to hit 500. I've got a great rapport with the fans and I want many, many more games. I've got three years left on my contract and that's what I intend to do.'
