Clarke Handed New Role

Clarke is Chelsea through and through, after spending much of the last 17 years at the club! Signed in 1987, Clarke won the FA Cup, the Coca Cola Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup and was also named Chelsea player of the year in 1994.

After ending his playing career, Steve joined Newcastle as Ruud Gullit's assistant manager. But not long after Bobby Robson took over, Clarkey departed to return to the Bridge as a scout. He was then promoted to youth team manager, a role he has filled for the past three years.

A Chelsea statement read: "José Mourinho has finalised his backroom team for the coming season by adding a fifth member and as previously suggested, Premiership experience and deep Chelsea knowledge has been incorporated with Steve Clarke the man chosen to provide it.

"Steve’s role will be assistant manager, the same title as taken by Baltemar Brito, one of the four staff José is bringing with him from Porto."

Now the club just need to bring in Franco Zola to the coaching staff, working with our younger players. Critics say that English players don't have good enough technique- Franco would soon change that!
