Mario was signed by Luca Vialli in 1999 and has been an ever present for the last three years. Having played in the great Ajax team of the nineties, made up of players progressing from their academy, Mario should have a good eye for talent.
So it's good to hear what he thinks of Carlton. Mario told the Evening Standard, "Carlton came on as a sub and scored the winner against Sunderland to remind everyone that he's still around and that can only be good for the side.
"Even if he is not keeping the main strikers out of the team yet, he has a role to play and is creating real pressure on our front three.
"I believe that Carlton is a star in the making and in my mind he's unquestionably the best youth player to emerge from the club's academy since I've been here."
Could we have the next Tore Andre Flo- but a more clinical version? Fingers crossed...
