Cole blasted the FA in an angry tweet last week after the English game's governing body cast doubt on his evidence in an investigation into allegations his Chelsea team-mate John Terry racially abused QPR's Anton Ferdinand.
Although the England left-back deleted the post and issued an immediate apology, the FA still charged Cole and on Thursday he requested a non-personal hearing which will determine his punishment.
A statement on the FA's website tonight read: "Ashley Cole has admitted an FA charge in relation to a Twitter comment which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.
"Cole has requested a non-personal hearing, the date of which has yet to be set."
