Crystal Palace midfielder Conor Gallagher has been called up to England's senior squad for the first time.
The 21-year-old was omitted from the Three Lions' original party for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino, despite putting in a string of impressive performances for Palace.
But having featured for the Under-21s earlier in the week, playing 89 minutes in a 3-1 win against Czech Republic, Gallagher has now been called up by Gareth Southgate for England's game against San Marino.
"I’m really happy and excited to be called up to the senior squad. I’m determined to make the most of the experience and know I have a lot of hard work to do," Gallagher told Palace's official website after receiving the news.
"I’d like to thank everyone that has helped me in my career so far and I’ll do my best to make them proud."
At the same time as announcing Gallagher's inclusion, England revealed that five players currently in the squad will not travel to San Marino.
Jordan Henderson and Jack Grealish have returned to Liverpool and Manchester City respectively for further assessment on injuries, while Raheem Sterling misses out because of a personal matter.
Mason Mount and Luke Shaw, who missed the win over Albania because of dental surgery and concussion issues, will also not link up with the squad.
Gallagher will train with the rest of England's players at Tottenham Hotspur's training ground before flying out for Monday's game. His call-up is the reward of a fine loan spell at Crystal Palace so far; one that has seen him flourish in a creative box-to-box midfielder role.
