Conor Gallagher has penned an emotional farewell message to Crystal Palace as he prepares to return to his parent club Chelsea.
Gallagher enjoyed a breakthrough season at Selhurst Park, earning plaudits and a senior England call-up for his tenacious, all-action displays in the centre of midfield.
Following the conclusion of his season-long loan in south London, Gallagher took to social media to bid farewell to Palace and their fans.
"I’m so proud to have been part of this team in which was a very successful season in the league and getting to Wembley for the FA cup semi final was amazing," he wrote. "From my first contact with Patrick [Vieira] he’s been brilliant with me and helped me develop into a better player, for which I can’t thank him enough.
"The players and staff have made me feel like I’ve been here for years and the fans have made me feel so at home. Your support helped us in tough games this season and it can make all the difference! I’ve given everything this season for the club and was delighted to be the supporters player of the year, thank you all so much for your support. It’s been so special to play for this great club.
"Hopefully I showed that in my performances on the pitch and how proud I was to wear the shirt. Thank you."
Listen now to 90min's brand new podcast, Talking Transfers, with Scott Saunders, Graeme Bailey & Toby Cudworth. This week they discuss whether Sadio Mane will leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich, Manchester United's pursuit of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, Newcastle's plans for Moussa Diaby and Sven Botman & Jorginho's future at Chelsea.
Such was his impact, Palace had been desperate to keep him at the club on another loan or on a permanent basis. However, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel wants to give him an opportunity in pre-season and hopes to involve him next season.
“I believe Conor can be a part of our squad and can play a role with us," the German said recently. "But I am not the only one to decide. We need to speak after the season with everybody, speak after the season about what Conor wants, we need to see what the situation is and what role we have for him that he can fight for.
"His development is extraordinary and outstanding."
90min understands that to facilitate Gallagher's integration, Chelsea will listen to offers for midfielder Jorginho this summer amid growing interest from Italy.
