Crespo Speaks!

The Argentine hitman missed a number of chances against Sparta Prague in his first start, yet you could already see the almost telepathic link with Seba Veron. And he revealed his thoughts on this season's Champions League...

"I see Juventus as favourites with Manchester United, who are angry to have been taken out so early in the competition last season. They have experience in this competition,'' Crespo told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"On paper, Chelsea players do not fear any opponent in Europe but we have to prove it. We have a great chance to reach the last 16 if we beat Besiktas in the next match and then after that anything can happen.'

"I hope I can be at my best in the two games against Lazio, it will be a beautiful game. Last year they already did well and the team has one year of experience of playing together. They can focus on any objective.

"But we at Chelsea are determined to win something important. I think our owner (Abramovich) has Real Madrid as a reference. They (Real) have an old tradition in this competition and we will have to create it at Chelsea."

Crespo also spoke of his former club Internazionale: "I think their will is to clinch the Scudetto (Italian league). This might distract them from the Champions League.

"I was saddened to leave Inter due to the good relationship that was created with my team-mates. However, there are less pressures (in England). Here football is lived like a sport and not like an exact science.

"When I arrived, (coach Claudio) Ranieri told me `you will see that you will have fun as you did when you were 10-years-old'. I would not have believed it had I not experienced it. I am convinced that in England I will live a stimulating experience, not only as a player but as a man.''

A stimulating experience? I'm sure he'll change his tune after a cold winter's night in Bolton!
