Tottenham and Liverpool seemed to be the front runners for the Dutch midfielder, but reports suggest Chelsea have sealed a two year deal.
Davids is currently a free agent, after spending the second half of last season at Barcelona.
He had expected to sign a permanent deal at the Nou Camp, but that now looks unlikely. Davids has expressed a desire too play in the Premiership, and Arsenal reportedly made efforts to sign him not too long ago.
I wouldn't get too excited about the deal until something official is released, but the 31 year old's arrival could spell the end for Claude Makelele or Geremi. The squad needs slimming down, and we keep buying! You don't have to be Einstein to work out there will be departures.
Am I looking too closely at this, but could the signing of Edgar Davids lead the way for Steven Gerrard to join next year? I mean, Davids is a big target for Liverpool, so a part exchange deal next summer might soften the blow of losing Steven Gerrard.
Maybe not!
