Chelsea and France captain Marcel Desailly has slammed critics, who claimed he is past it at the age of 35.
Desailly missed Chelsea's 3-0 win over Pompey on Saturday, after completing the full 90 minutes only two days earlier at Charlton.
Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri claimed Desailly was not able to play two games inside 48 hours after leaving him out of the squad for the 3-0 Premiership defeat of Portsmouth on Sunday.
Desailly has been out of form for Chelsea of late, but the former AC Milan star insisted his absence was simply due to Ranieri's squad rotation policy.
"Two days after our 4-2 defeat against Charlton the coach decided to rotate his squad and to rest me, and suddenly everyone created a controversy, in England as well as in France, when there is none," said Desailly on his own website.
"What people have to understand is that since the season started, the coach has decided to practice a turnover policy which concerns every single player. Chelsea is the only club in Europe where there is such a regular turnover."
Desailly is still one of our best defenders at the moment, but the signs are there that he is ready to step down, but he does still have another season after this one to run on his contract, after he extended it in the summer.
