Desailly Targets FA Cup

Marcel was part of our 2000 FA Cup winning team and also played an integral part in getting us to last season's final.

And he admits that nothing quite matches winning a major trophy... something he knows a little bit about, winning the Champions League in consecutive years in the early nineties, numerous domestic trophies with Marseille and Milan, not too mention the World Cup and European Championships with FranceDesailly said, "The FA Cup is our best chance of winning something this season. The Premier League would be really difficult. We have shown ourselves to be more consistent this season but we have to be careful - we don't have a lot more points than we had at this time last year. We need to maintain our form in the league.

"But there is nothing to match actually winning a major trophy, nothing. For me it is very important that we win something because these are my last years at the club. I have one or two more.

"At the end, only the victory stays with you, the wonderful feeling of the pleasure of victory. It really is something special. That is why I want to win. It is also vital for the generation of players we have at Chelsea.

"They are young and they have a lot of quality. And they will realise what it means if you actually win something. It will do a lot for their maturity and their self-confidence will grow."

What he says actually made me think- how many players in our squad have actually won a trophy? Something meaningful... For those that haven't, it's about time that they did!
