Duff And Bridge To Sign On Monday?

As soon as it was revealed that Wayne Bridge had handed in a transfer request at Southampton and a fee was agreed with Chelsea, it was inevitable that he would join the club.

However, nothing has been officially confirmed- although his agents thinks that it will all go through on Monday. Jonathon Barnett said "I can't see any problems and hopefully everything will be sorted on Monday."

And talks with another transfer target, Damien Duff, seem to be going in the right direction. His agent, Pat Devlin, revealed "We met Mr Ranieri on Saturday and things went well. It's down to Damien now - no-one's going to pressurise him."

"It's very simple - he either stays at Blackburn or he goes to Chelsea. It's one or the other. There's been no interest from Manchester United that I'm aware of. If there was I'm sure Blackburn would have alerted not only ourselves but Chelsea as well."

And Manchester United have now confirmed that they have no intention of bidding for Duff. Chief Exec Peter Kenyon said "Let's kill the Damien Duff story straightaway. We are not in for him. There has been no approach to the club and no approach to the player and there won't be. He is due to sign for Chelsea.''

Due to sign for Chelsea? Is tomorrow going to be the day we announce a double signing? Well, it could be a day when we announce the departure of a Chelsea great. Graeme Le Saux looks like he is on the way out. Southampton have been talking to him and he is also set to meet with Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp.

To sell Sauxy is a disgrace. He is still a quality player, one who I rate higher than Wayne Bridge. But age is creeping up on him and I'm sure that, given the choice of sitting on the bench at his beloved Chelsea or playing regular football, Sauxy would opt for the latter. That says a lot about the person that he is...
