It was widely thought that Gudjohnsen would sign a new deal this week, ending months of speculation over his future.
But, according to Planet Football, Gudjohnsen snr claims that Chelsea have withdrawn their contract offer to his son. However, the said article says that Arnar Gudjohnsen is also his son's agent, whilst Chelsea-Mad understands that Eidur is represented by a man named Peter Harrison.
But enough of that, here's what Arnar had to say: "Everything was agreed on the new deal and he was supposed to sign it on Tuesday, but it was suddenly withdrawn last night (Monday).
"It is very strange as we have not been told why the offer has been taken away. It has come as a major shock as Eidur was focusing on the new season and was keen to stay with Chelsea. We had an offer from a foreign club for Eidur which would have doubled his money, but he knocked it back.
"Eidur trained hard all summer as he wanted to show what he can do after a disappointing season last term. He was not given a fair chance last season as he was pulled off on many occasions after 60 or 70 minutes even if he had scored 2 goals. That is very soul destroying for a player and he was keen to put things right this season.
"We will sit down and think over what to do. Obviously it is very difficult as this is all very new to us still. Eidur doesn't have to prove anything as he is a quality player. I am sure that there are a lot of clubs interested in him, but it is absolutely vital that he takes the right step whether that be with Chelsea or not."
More on this as we get it...
