Emma Hayes reveals meeting with incoming Chelsea owner Todd Boehly

Emma Hayes met incoming Chelsea owner Todd Boehly for the first time on Friday, with the pair having lunch at the club's Cobham training ground after he watched the women's team train ahead of the FA Cup final.

Chelsea announced on Saturday that terms had been agreed with a new ownership group led by Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss to purchase the club. Hours after Saturday's ownership announcement, LA Dodgers co-owner Boehly was in the stands at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolves.

Hayes sat down with the incoming owner on Friday ahead of their FA Cup final clash with Manchester City, and gave a positive assessment of their first discussions.

"I had lunch with Todd," Hayes revealed. "He watched the girls train, I had a really lovely couple of hours with him. [He was] delightful, really passionate, he’s just a normal down to earth guy, really passionate about Chelsea, he loves Chelsea.

"He’s ambitious as we are and it’s a perfect fit. I saw him at one of the games he went to at Stamford Bridge but he was upstairs and I was downstairs."

Outgoing owner Roman Abramovich's investment in the women's side during the second half of his tenure saw Chelsea blossom into a European powerhouse, spending big to bring world class forwards Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder to west London.

The club have won 12 major trophies in the past seven years - and could make it 13 with victory over Manchester City in Sunday's FA Cup final.
