Ferrer was brought to The Bridge from Spanish giants Barcelona for £2.2 million back in 1998. Having been signed during the same summer as Desailly, Casirgahi and Laudrup, Ferrer’s signing probably made the least headlines and yet it proved to be "the most inspired".
A man of vast experience having made 330 appearances as Barcelona’s right back, he has also made 35 appearances for Spain and has 5 Spanish league championships.
He has currently made more than 100 appearances for The Blues but reports from Spain today suggest that the La Liga club have settled on a fee of £2 million for the player.
"We have passed the information onto Albert’s representatives, and we await his decision," said a Blues’ spokesman.
Ferrer has proved to be an excellent servant for the club and a crowd favourite although a succession of injuries have caused him to lose his place as first choice.
Maybe now is the right time for Ferrer to move on and regain regular first team football and with it, regain his credibility and respect he deserves.
