Firstly, we bring you news that Steve Bruce would like to keep Mikael on a permanent basis. He revealed: "Mikael was very impressive for Finland against Wales last week and everyone saw what he did on his debut for Birmingham. I thought he was excellent.

"He is a top-quality striker. That is what we've got for the next four months then hopefully we can keep him for the rest of the season. In our initial conversations with Chelsea they said they did not want to sell him. But with the influx of players who knows what changes might take place.

"We will progress to that later on in the transfer window or at the end of the season. They wanted him to play first-team football which we were delighted to accommodate. We are certainly hoping that he can score goals for us.

"He did it in the Bundesliga last season and kept Borussia Monchengladbach in the division with 10 goals in 17 games. Although we have started this season well we need to score more goals."

And a permanent move may suit Mikael, although he didn't say anything to revealing. He said "I know what I can do on the pitch. I have a healthy confidence in my own ability. I've no thoughts that my Chelsea career is over after signing a four year contract. But I do not want to speculate after one game.

"It has been frustrating not playing regularly for Chelsea. I did want to play all the time and Chelsea are a world-class team going forward all the time. In football, things change quickly and I do not want to hold any grudges. That is life. I am a professional who just wants to play football.

"The buzz around Birmingham is really big. I heard Steve Bruce's interviews before I came to St Andrews when he said the club wants to go forward. The chairman and everyone are ambitious and the team have some marvellous support."
