Chelsea's quest to deny English-based young strikers a chance to shine at Stamford Bridge increased with the signing of an Argentina U-20 striker today.
Franco Di Santo, 18, put pen to paper from Chilean side Audax Italiano for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be about £3m.
The boy is 6ft four inches tall and has a contract for four and a half years.
He holds an Italian passport.
Frank Lampard said in a recent interview regarding young players breaking through into a club's first team: "It's hard for clubs to come through at the top clubs, because they have squads full of talent and can buy more rather than try out a kid.
"But the cream will rise to the top. Put it this way, If I had a son, I'd advise him to go to a club where he would be given a chance at a young age."
Let's hope this boy proves soon to be good enough to go straight into the first team then.
