Gallas Hints At New Contract

Gallas signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2001, arriving at a cost of around £6 million. What a bargain that seems now! Unfortunately, Gallas had a minimum fee release clause inserted into his contract, meaning that he could leave the club if anyone made an offer of around £7 million for him.

That fee will drop as the years of his contract countdown, and he could eventually leave us for as little as £3.5 million. But that seems unlikely after reading Gallas's recent comments.

Speaking to the BBC, Gallas said "Right now I could see myself being at Chelsea for the rest of my career. If we play every year in the Champions League and win a cup, why not?

"That's asking a lot but we have big ambitions in this Chelsea team. I think that most of this team will be together for a long time.

"I have three years left on my contract. But right now my agent is already talking to Chelsea about a new one. We may extend it for two or three years, I am not sure. But I am very happy to stay at Chelsea."

And Gallas admitted that his recent appearances for France have also made him realise that it wouldn't have happened unless we made a move for him: "I have just been picked for the France team again. This has only happened because I am at Chelsea, so why would I want to leave?

"When I arrived there were clauses in my contract because I was not sure how it would work out. It was not easy coming into a new country. Now I am quite happy if they are taken out."

What are you waiting for Chelsea- get those damn clauses out of his contract!
