Avram Grant has issued a warning to Andre Villas-Boas win games or face the axe.
The former Chelsea coach and good friend of Roman Abramovich spoke a day after the rookie 33-year-old was appointed on a three-year-deal at SW6.
Grant, who led Chelsea to a spot-kick away from winning the Champions League in 2008, admitted that VIllas-Boas has what it takes to be a success but said: “Football is a results business,” said the Israeli.
“VIllas-Boas is an intelligent man, a good man.
“I was a director at Chelsea when he was a scout for Mourinho and he’s a nice person.
“But Chelsea will give him what he needs - Chelsea has to win matches this is what Chelsea is about.
“He lacks experience [as a coach] and Roman wants to wins matches.”
Grant also defused what many believe will be the biggest obstacle facing Villa-Boas - he age.
Many of Chelsea top players are older than him and he has never played the game at anywhere ear the top level.
“If can win the players over, if they believe in what he is telling them, then he will be fine “ said Grant.
Chelsea players Petr Cech, Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack headed a player revolt against the system and playing methods of Luiz-Philipe Scolari. They went to Abramovich and voiced their concerns - Scolari was gone within months.
“All that matters is winning games,” said Grant.
