But TV coverage showed Hasselbaink's team-mate Melchiot was the offender.
An FA spokesman confirmed the decision to transfer the punishment from the striker to the defender had been reached following correspondence with Halsey.
Melchiot will therefore start a three-match suspension on February 6th.
He is free to play in Saturdays FA Cup fourth-round clash with West Ham at Stamford Bridge but the suspension will rule him out of the fifth-round tie should Chelsea beat the Hammers.
If they do not, Melchiot will be ruled out of the Premiership derby clash with Fulham at the Bridge on March 6th.
He will definitely miss the league trips to Aston Villa, on February 9th, and Charlton, on March 2nd.
