Having already tapped up Ajax coach Henk ten Cate, the Dutch giants have done the honourable thing and are now letting him talk officially to the former Premiership champions.
The charade surrounding the undermining of long-serving Steve Clarke will come to a head this week and Cate,52, will be installed as Avram Grant's assistant by the end of this week.
Ajax are know to be furious that Chelsea have acting improperly in this matter and are considering asking UEFA to look into the whole transfer situation.
Cate has a reputation in Holland as being his own man and is a volitile character.
It's widely believed that Grant is Chelsea stop-gap coach, and that next season a properly qualified coach will be installed at SW6.
Quite who that will be remains a mystery with Dutchmen Marco an Basten and Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard in the frame.
A lot depends on who will be available and with the Euro 2008 championships next summer, Chelsea may be forced to wait until almost the begining of next season to get the man Roman really wants.
