Guus Hiddink is reported to be having second thoughts about leaving Chelsea at the end of May.
Suggestions seeping out of the corridors of power at SW6 is that the Blues desperately want Hiddink to stay and are trying their best to make it happen.
Hiddink has two jobs at present - head coach to Russia and head coach to Chelsea.
He stated without any sense of ambiguity that his stint at Chelsea was only until the end of this season having taken over from some ex-Brazilian World Cup-winning manager this season.
But now top dogs at the Russian FA are starting to make noises which suggest all that will change.
A lot depends on how well Russia get on in their World Cup qualifiers of course.
But Hiddink is apparently thinking that he likes this dual-job role - and in these recessionary times, who wouldn't?
But his role at Chelsea might be as a sort of consultant - ie "These are the things you need to do, win games, win more games and finally win another game."
Of course you would have to put a bit of flesh on that strategy - "Get the best players and make them play" would be tagged onto the document handed to whoever takes the poison chalice as Chelsea's next head coach.
So there you have it. If Mr Abramovich gets his way, he will have steered the political minefield that is Russian state politics and got Hiddink to stay as Russian coach until the end of the World Cup next year and also have the promise that he could very well become Chelsea coach permanently after that.
I'd like it to be publically known, that I am up for head-hunting if Hiddink turns down the multimillion-pound consultancy role.
A duel role as writer for Chelsea-mad and working for the club is possible.
