Jose Mourinho was naturally delighted with his side's 4-0 over WBA tonight.
He said: “We are top of the league only because Manchester United did not play.
It’s not important that we are top, only that we are improving.
We are playing with confidence and controlled the game - it was a complete game for us.
“We looked good all night, our mobility was excellent. I have a lot of good players, I have to use them, but keep the structure and balance of the side.
“If you have a Bentley and an Aston Martin in the garage, and always use the Bentley, you are not clever. The Aston Martin needs to be used too.
Frank Lampard was fantastic and I felt WBA could not do better.
“They came to complicate matters for us, but they had no chance.
I was happy with Joe Cole he did his talking on the pitch not the press and he worked well with Glen Johnson which is good news for England.”
Bryan Robson’s take of the game was predictability different.
“Chelsea did not cause us problems, we caused them for ourselves,” he said.
Adding: We gave them the first two goals, but Chelsea are excellent defensively, so we had no chance of getting back into the game.
“Our team shape was good and we frustrated them.
I rang the changes tonight with one eye on Saturday’s match against Birmingham.
“It’s impossible for us to play Wednesday night and then be ready to play again on Saturday morning.
My selection was to stop Chelsea and make them break us down.
“Chelsea are stronger than last season. Only Manchester United can challenge them this season.
I like Essien, he is strong and quick- a great signing for them.
“I only wish I could run about as much as him.
I am realistic about this season.
“Last season, we escaped relegation with 35 points. This season, I am aiming for 40 to 42 points.
Anything better than that will be a bonus.
“To get anything from this season, we will have to work really hard.”
