Are Chelsea about to lose their talisman John Terry?
Or is JT about to declare his footballing future to the Blues?
One way or other Chelsea's senior management have being caught out by those new kids on the mega-money block Manchester City and JT's management team.
John is in a no-lose financial situation. He has found himself in a locked in the middle a battle between City who are prepared to offer him £200k a week for four years and Chelsea who are reluctant to be held to ransom and offer him an improved pay deal.
Chelsea must decide to either give JT a new contract, if indeed that's what he wants or tell their captain he is not for sale and for him to honour his existing contract.
JT has said many times in the past that he is a Chelsea man through and though and it's unlikely he would ask to speak to City.
That does not mean his team would not. And JT has many friends at City who would find it easy to gauge his opinion without the need to make things official.
So that is where we are at the moment. JT's team are doing their best to get the best for the Chelsea and England skipper and Chelsea are doing their best to ensure not an extra penny is spent.
The upshot? Well a joint statement by Chelsea and JT to the effect that he is staying would be welcomed by all Blues fans.
But the silence is ominous.
The Blues are about to head off to the States for pre-season. The situation needs sorting.
So long as City are given a glimmer of hope they could turn JT's head there will continue to be this speculation.
Chelsea must face their responsibilities to the Club and the fans to act quickly and decisively.
