Chelsea's midfield star in the making Josh McEachran celebrated his first award on Friday night at glittering awards ceremony in his home county of Oxfordshire in front of an
audience of over 300 people at the Oxfordshire Sports Awards 2010.
The event, organised and hosted by the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership, saw
Josh up against some tough competition for the title of Sportsman of the Year,
sponsored by Ability Matters, in the form of Motor Racing star, Jason Plato
and London Wasps, Sam Jones.
2010 has been a remarkable year for the 17-year-old which has seen him
start for Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League and earn his first England
U21 cap to name but a few of his achievements in his early rise to fame.
Receiving his first award, and surely not his last, from his home county
was even sweeter for McEachran who’s roots still firmly lie in Oxfordshire
where his family live. “It’s the first award I’ve ever won, “ he said. “And I’m so
pleased to have got it in my home town.”
When asked about his year so far he said, “It has been great to play for
Chelsea this season. It’s such a great thrill to be involved with such a big club.
Hopefully, we can win the Premier League and even the Champions League.
That would be the ultimate for me.”
Although his career to date has only been very short McEachran certainly
looks destined for greatness and is one to watch.
