JT had much publcised problems during 2001 and 2002. In the first instance, he and several teamamtes (including Frank Lampard and Eidur Gudjohnsen) went out drinking just days after September 11. It is thought that they were disrupting guests at Heathrow Airport, many of whom were American and waiting for a flight out of the contract.
Then in 2002, he had an altercation at a London nightclub, along with Jody Morris. The pair faced trial later in the year, both eventually being cleared.
That's all behind Terry now. He revealed "Franco and I used to play golf all the time. On the way round, he would say to me 'Why do you drink John?' He told me I mustn't mess up my career.
"It took me two years to take any notice. He was always right but can't look back. I have never been more focused in my life. I don't drink, seldom go out and the only thing that matters to me is training, getting better and winning trophies. This could be the greatest season of my life."
JT is now a senior figure in the Chelsea squad. He needs to set an example to others. And, by the sounds of it, he is setting some example...
