Avril Grant still won't smile, despite three goals from his talismatic midfielder, who spared the brushes of the first team coach/manager.
Chelsea were within minutes of being dumped out of the Carling Cup by Championship Leicester City and it would not have being rough justice as the Blues defended like a pub side.
Leicester took the lead before Lampard struck twice before the break.
The midlanders then raced into a lead before Shevchenko hit the second equaliser and then Lampard stuck the knife in the heart of the plucky opponents.
Grant said afterwards: "It was an enjoyable game. We didn't like to give away three goals, but we showed great character.
"I don't give up until the end and their keeper was fantastic. But we should have scored more.
"A 1-0 score is good, but a 4-3 is better," he added.
Grant, who is on the club board of directors, which suggests he relly should know what's going on then confirmed he did not know if Lampard is going to sign a new contract.
"I don't know if Frank is close to signing a new contract. He wants to stay, we want him to stay," was all he would say on the matter.
Acting Leicester City boss Frank Burrows was everything you would expect - proud and disaapointed in equal measure.
"It's not often you see John Terry, the captain of England run from the stands onto the pitch and punch the air to celebrate a win against a Championship side," he said.
"They were the better side, they passed the ball better, but we had better hearts and I would not want to change one of my players.
"I was guilty into thinking we could win when we were leading 3-2 with eight minutes remaining.
"But Chelsea are quality, top-class. It was a big part of my teamtalk to the players that they should perform well enough to send our fans home happy and they did that tonight.
