Martyn Turns Down Move

Former England international Martyn rarely figured for Leeds last season after the emergence of Paul Robinson. And it is no secret that cash strapped Leeds need to trim their wage bill, with Robinson also almost sold earlier this summer to Aston Villa.

With a fee of £500,000 agreed, Martyn rejected the move in order to fight for his place at Leeds.

What I want to know is why Chelsea are trying to sign another goalkeeper. With Jurgen Macho and Marcio Ambrosio both joining the club in the summer, not to mention young Lenny Pidgeley waiting in the wings, I think it is a position that we have more than enough cover in.

Carlo Cudicini is undoubtedly the number one, with the others left to scrap for the role of understudy. Granted Jurgen Macho is now injured for the first few months of the season, but we still have two able back up goalkeepers.

And with no central midfielders yet recruited, unless Claudio intends to play Geremi there, I think we certainly have more pressing things to worry about than signing yet another goalkeeper. Least not a goalie who is past it...
