Chelsea defender Millie Bright has signed a new three-year contract to remain with the WSL champions.
Bright shone at Euro 2022 during July as England secured a first ever major international trophy, having already played a starring role in Chelsea’s fifth WSL title last season.
The 28-year-old joined the Blues from Doncaster at the end of 2014 and her new deal, which runs until 2025, will see her stay at the club surpass a decade.
“We are absolutely delighted that Millie has signed a new contract,” said Chelsea general manager Paul Green.
“Millie remains our longest serving player and her time with us has been key to our success. The way that she leads on and off the pitch is second to none and we are proud of how far she has come and all her achievements, including her most recent win at the Euro’s which was a very proud moment for the club.”
Bright has been on holiday since Euro 2022 finished just under two weeks ago but will soon return to action for Chelsea as pre-season preparations for the 2022/23 campaign ramp up.
The centre-back will be back with her teammates in time for the pre-season trip to Portland for the Women’s International Champions Cup, where Chelsea will play games against Lyon and either Monterrey or Portland Thorns on 17 August and 20 August respectively.
Chelsea’s WSL season will begin on 11 September at Stamford Bridge against West Ham, with a bumper crowd expected in west London.
But before then, Bright will actually be back in action for England, who have their final two 2023 World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Luxembourg in the first week of September. The Lionesses will book an automatic place in the tournament if they avoid defeat against Austria. Failing that, beating Luxembourg, who they thrashed 10-0 in the reverse fixture, will do it regardless.
