First things first, let's start with van Bommel. He told De Telegraff "The ambitions of the club (Chelsea), as I see them, are looking great. I will speak with them only after the clubs have reached an agreement.

"And even then I first want to look around in London and at the Chelsea stadium. But their ambitions sound good. Chelsea at last want to make a real effort to win the championship and they want to have a serious role in the Champions League too."

But PSV deny any bid has been made by Chelsea. A spokesman for the Dutch club said "We have heard something from an agent who said that he was acting on behalf of Chelsea.

"He asked us what van Bommel should cost. But the man could not show us a guarantee that he was really speaking on behalf of Chelsea."

Fact or fiction?? Who knows with the new Chelsea!

And now on to the Manu Petit rumours. He has been linked strongly with Man City but insists he would like to stay with Chelsea. Speaking in L'equipe (French newspaper), Petit said "There is nothing, I will never go there (City). I have the trust of my chairman and coach at Chelsea. If other defensive midfielders arrive at Chelsea, I would be delighted- but as it stands at the moment, we are starting the season with just two defensive midfielders."
