The French defender has ended all the speculation linking him with a move away from the club, speculation which has been ongoing for the past year. Along with John Terry, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Carlton Cole, Gallas has vastly improved his contract.
Despite having three years left on his current deal, there was still a clause in Gallas' contract which allowed him to talk to other clubs if the fee was met. However, the one year extension will get rid of that clause- making Gallas almost intransferable.
In my opinion, William Gallas is the best defender in the Premiership. He is as crucial to the future of this club as any of our big money signing this summer.
And at 26, he is only just coming into his prime. Potentially, we're looking at a back four with an average age of 22, if we go with Bridge, Johnson, Terry and Gallas. The future is bright...
