It is understood that the Magpies will make a bid to land the 21-year-old Chelsea stopper when the transfer window re-opens in January.
United are remaining tight-lipped on speculation that Robson will move for the former England Under-21 skipper.
But with the inadequacies of the current rearguard having being cruelly exposed once again at Manchester United on Saturday, there is little doubt that the manager will act.
Robson attempted to address the situation during the summer when he paid Ipswich Town £4.5million for Titus Bramble, but a combination of uncertain early form and injury have limited his progress to date.
Newcastle have repeatedly been linked with a move for Lazio's former Manchester United rock Jaap Stam, while Chelsea's William Gallas has also been touted as a target.
Arsenal too have been linked with a move for Terry, a commanding central defender with leadership skills, but the rivalry between Chelsea and the Gunners would suggest that, if Claudio Ranieri was prepared to sell, the Magpies may have a better chance of landing their man.
So……as it stands, come January, Chelsea (according to current speculation) would be without John Terry, William Gallas, Eidur Gudjohnsen, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Have I managed to miss anybody?
Is there any chance of us actually having a team left?
But hey, don’t fret…..do you really think that Chelsea are likely are to sell Terry? Terry is a player that Chelsea Football Club has nurtured and developed since about the age of 12/13!
This boy is Blue blooded – and a future Chelsea captain.
So hands off!!!!!
