Abramovich has already spent around £140 million buying the club and clearing our debts, with an additional £37 million spent on purchasing four new players.
But if Chelsea are to become as big a club as Abramovich is planning, he is going to have to spend a lot more money. He is not fazed by this prospect though and is more than happy to spend when the time is right.
Abramovich said "I have not thought about how much money I'm prepared to spend. I suppose that depends on how well we play and how determined we are to win. If I felt the need to buy any particular player to get the results we want I'll just spend more money.
"I didn't realise they would write so much about me in British newspapers - it is incredible - but I did know that in England football is a kind of religion, so I suppose there was always going to be a lot of interest.
"Some people in Russia, who call themselves patriots, said I should have put more money into Russian sport, not into a foreign team. The problem is that we don't live in a free country. We are not used to people spending their own money how they want to."
